Percentage Of Full Marks

In an examination in which full marks were 800, A gets 20% more than B, B gets 20% more than C, and C gets 15% less than D. If A got 576 what parentage of full marks did D get (approximately)?

Let’s assume, the marks that D scored is = x… (i)
Now, according to the problem, C scored 15% less than D.
Therefore the score of C is = x- 15x/ 100
                = 85x/ 100…. (ii)
Now, the problem states that B scored 20% more than C.
Therefore, the score of B is = 85x/ 100 * 120/ 100… (iii)
Again, according to the problem, A got 20% more than B.
Therefore, the score that a got is = 85x/ 100 * 120/ 100 * 120/ 100… (iv)
Now, according to the problem, A had scored 576.
Therefore, considering the fourth equation it can be said that,
85x/ 100 * 120/ 100 * 120/ 100 = 576
?85/ 100* 120/ 100 * 120/ 100 * x = 576

  • 17/ 100 * 6 * 6/ 5 * x = 576 … (all the numbers have been divided by 5)

  • 17/ 100 * 36/ 5 * x = 576 …. (the last two digits have been multiplied)

  • X= 576 * 100 * 5/ 17 * 6 * 6 … (the digits have been taken to the right hand side)

  • X = 470. 588 … (upon calculation)

Therefore, since we had assumed that the score of D is x, therefore, D had scored, 470.588 or 470.59.
Now, the question was what percentage of the total marks did D got.
Therefore, the percentage score of D, upon the full marks is, 470.59 * 100/ 800
Therefore, the score of D is = 58. 824 … (upon calculation)
Therefore, D had scored 58.824% of the total score.
