The Breakfast Club

Who all were a part of the "The Breakfast Club" (1985) cast?

The Breakfast Club is an American teen comedy-drama that has been written, directed and produced by John Hughes. It was one of the best films that Hughes has ever produced. In the year 1985, The Breakfast Club was one of the renowed and loved comedy-drama the era has ever watched. The prime reason for the movie to be loved by the people was its casts.

Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy have been started in the movie. The film was about a few teenager from a different school. The film is about the teenagers who have spent a Saturday night in detention with their authoritarian assistant principle.

The movie was being premiered in Los Angeles on February 7th, 1985. After a few months, the movie was released in United States by Universal Pictures. It was a great hit with $51.5 million on a budget of $1 million budget. According to critics and several other films makes it was one of the most remarkable works of John Hughes.

In the year 2016, the film was being selected to be preserved in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as one of the most culturally and historical film in the United States. It has a different level of aesthetical significant. Moreover, in the year 2015, the film was remastered and rescreened through 430 theatres on its 30th anniversary.
The eight characters in the film were the gems that had helped Hughes create a masterpiece. Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall had performed in Hughes’ sixteen candles in the year 1984 at the end of which Hughes decided to work with both of them in his next movie The Breakfast Club.

The first cast of the film was Hall, who worked with his real-life mother and sister playing the same role in the movie. He justified the character of Brian Johnson with his fine creativity that was quite evident in the movie. However, Molly Ringwald did not seem to be much happy with the role of Claire Standish that she was playing. She was initially hired to play the role of Allison Reynolds that was being played by Ally Sheedy later on. She was quite upset with the role that she was playing in the film.

Later on, she convinced Hughes to give her the part and succeeded to play the role that she wanted. The other characters were later on auditioned for other roles. Emilio was auditioned for the role of John Blender. During the time of casting, Hughes seems to be very confused during casting. He was unable to find someone for the role of Andrew. Emilio was recast.  The last role to be cast was of John Bender, the role of Cage.

The role of Cage narrowed down the role of Judd Nelson and Jedd Nelson. Nelson had harassed Ringwald off-camera and hence there were great chaos among the casts. This act or harassment had disappointed Hughes badly. Rick Moranis was being cast as the janitor. However, did not work later on due to creativity difference and was replaced by John Kapelos.

Finally, the role was being executed by the following as Judd Nelson as the John Bender, Emilio Estevez as Andrew Clerk, Anthony Michael Hall as Brian Johnson, Molly Ringwald as Claire Standish, Ally Sheedy as Allison Reynolds, Paul Gleason as Assistant Principal Vernon, John Kapelos as Carl Reed and Ron Dean as Mr. Clark.

The film showed a story that was pretty different from the movies that were being directed at that time. The film was about the teenagers who were bound by studies and the pressure that the elders would burden them. The teenagers were considered as children and their emotions as fake and of no values. The film with these characters portrayed the mental pressure that the children went throught due to the elders.

The children in the film focused on the touchers that every teenagers have to go through their teens. Often parents and teachers do not pay much importance to the thoughts that arise in the mind of the children. From the film, the characters show that most of the time the teenagers logically take decisions in the teens. Parents and teachers do not bother to take their decision important and this demotivates the children to take decisions of their life.

During the teenagers, the children are being forced to do things that the school or their parents find it important. However, it leads to underconfidence in children. The film was not only for the children; it was a great message to the parents and teachers as well. The assistant principle was the only adult character in the movie. He was not much in the positive light.

The adult character helped in the understanding of the adults in the society. The characters played quite well to depict the actual scenario of the society. There were awards that was being given to the characters for the role they have played. The characters are the prime that helped in the execution of the movie well.

However, Hughes has faced various situations and issues during the cast of the movie yet it has been a box office hit for the roles that they had played. The confusion with the roles and allocation of the role by Hughes seems to be successful due to Hughes’ skill of right film direction.

Hence, it can be concluded that the film was an amazing amalgamation of the casts, story, theme and delivery. Initially, there was a great dilemma that Hughes faced; however, he successfully succeeded in producing one of the best films the industry has ever witnessed. The casts have also been very efficient in working that helped in the delivery of the work.
