Question:

As the healthcare system prepares to select an outsource company as its vendor for this project, what types of information should it give to and gather from each vendor under consideration?

What are the potential benefits a healthcare system could gain from implementing a document imaging and management project prior to implementing an EHR system?

Answer:

The healthcare system is preparing to select a company which will act as an outsource vendor needed for this project. The different types of information the healthcare system must provide to and collect from the vendor are to assess the EHR needs of the hospital; to set the goals of EHR that should be specific, that can be measured, must be relevant and limited within time, to make the list of deal breakers and to decide where the EHR data will reside for example in a vendor server or in a cloud storage. The healthcare system must develop a request for information (RFI) for soliciting the information from the vendors (Nguyen, Bellucci, & Nguyen, 2014).

The potential benefits of switching to the EHR system in the healthcare system are it will be hassle free as the use of the papers for keeping the records will be reduced. The chances of missing the records of the patient’s are diminished. The EHRs helps in the easy access to the entire medical history of the patient. The record is available at any time of the day and do not require any extra space store it. It also helped in saving the money by reducing the maintaining the records in the computer system and are accessible to different staffs at the same time but at different locations (Boonstra, Versluis & Vos, 2014).
