Question:

The technology acceptance model (TAM) is a two-factor model that describes user acceptance of new or replacement technology solutions (Davis, 1989). This evaluation model has withstood the test of time and is widely used. The model is based upon perceptions and beliefs of individuals and measures two types of factors: (a) perceived ease of use and (b) perceived usefulness.

Explain how researchers could use the TAM model to explore the factors influencing employee acceptance of wearable technologies to authenticate users for access to facilities and/or computing systems. What research questions might they ask? What measurements would be needed?

Answer:

Introduction

Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is a theoretical concept of information technology where people are convinced to use new technology (Pando-Garcia et al., 2016). Sánchez-Prieto et al. (2017) furthermore highlights that individual get easily convinced for adopting new technology if they realize that the technology will enhance their performance and if the work can be done without giving much effort or effortlessly.

Discussion

The major aspects that on considering a researcher can easily explore the factors that help employees to accept some technology is to understand why technology development in that field is required. TAM does the same thing that is to identify why an individual convinced to use a particular technology in the work context. Sundarraj and Manochehri (2013) furthermore depicts that the development of TAM model first introduced in later 80’s and this technique can be used by the researcher in recent times also that is whether or not the wearable technology will easy to use and constructive for accomplishing their work.

It is also evident that TAM model doe not tell about the how this technology is made but how an employee perceives its usefulness in workplace (Gangwar et al. 2015). Thus, for researchers it is necessary to make them understand regarding the benefits of using a wearable technology in workplace. In this context, the researcher should make the employees of an organization realize that wearable gadgets are providing results immediately and it allows an individual to communicate in the real world more. Pando-Garcia et al. (2016) also suggests that these employees should be offered a practical using of this technology. For instance, a wearable eye glasses for scanning the retina so that authenticated access can be attained while entering in a security concerned area.

The research question that can be asked in this context is “What is the perception of an employee regarding warble technology in accomplishing official work in accessing computing system”. Another question that can be formulated is “Does the development in technology actually influence employee to adopt the technology or they are using it because a huge percentage of people prefer it as useful”. The last question can be “Whether or not the technology tells employee to develop a useful technology rather than just ensuring its usefulness in work”.

Conclusion

Thus, it can be said there is some limitation of TAM that is does not refer to the development of technology and not all individual understand its importance. These aspects can be asked as question to employee on convincing them regarding adopting the new technology of wearable device.
