1.Choose a film and discuss the importance of technological advancements to its success as a mode of storytelling. How might it have been told differently, for better or worse, without these technological advancements?

2.Choose a film that gained notoriety due to the Internet and discuss how social media and other instant modes of communication have changed the ways in which we approach, appreciate, and consume films. What do these changes imply about the future of film distribution and audience participation in the film lifespan?

You have been right at pointing out that a weak plot is enough to render a movie unpopularity and incapability in terms of drawing the attention of audiences. Talking about the movie “Radio” it must be said that though the story of the movie had been an inspirational one, the voids in the plot and the inability of the director to compensate those voids with good character role-plays added to the failure that the movie faced in the context of revenue earning. But I just want to add to your comment the fact that a film’s success or failure does not only depends on the plot or on the acting zeal of the actors; rather, the strength of the screenplay plays a vital role in paving the way for a movie to accomplish financial and artistic success. The movie “Radio” failed to enjoy the predicted success, and much of its downfall should be linked with the weaknesses that were ingrained in the movie’s screenplay. Emphasizing the importance of a script it must be said that; “A script is just as vital for a simple video, shot on a minimal budget, as it is for a feature length documentary. Having script in hand, with every shot and every action planned out in advance, allows the video to be shot relatively quickly, saving on expense” (Advanced Media Integration, 2012). Another vital purpose of a good script is to attribute the plot with coherence and logical flow. It is due to the void of a good script that the movie “Radio” suffered from disparity between the actors’ efforts and the director’s endeavours.

Dear Brian,

You have justifiably pointed out the movie “Avatar” as an artistic creation the popularity of which largely relied on effective infusion of advanced technologies, including exuberant graphics and advanced cinematography. The amalgamation of digital technology with human creativity should be considered among the hallmarks of the movie and it had been the right incorporation of the right technology in the right time in the movie that made the movie a global box office hit. Moreover, I am quite in agreement with you in terms of the fact that the effective usage of CGI technology the producer and director of the movie had been able to invest more on bettering the projection of the movie than to expend on props. You are right; till date the movie “Avatar” has been among the most technologically advanced movies, and it is also a truth that movies like “Avatar” are revolutions in the sphere of the movie industry having the potential to put the popularity and prosperity of renowned human actors at stake. I am quite sure of the fact that technological advancement is the next big need on the part of the film industry which had, in the past, suffered from wrong modes of investment into the wrong sector. It is technological integration that would be drawing more audiences to the movie theatres in the future, and movies like “Avatar” should be considered as the predecessor of such technological movies that are going to be the future face of the movie industry.
