The unit is specifically designed to introduce different types of philosophical arguments and ideas. This unit familiarizes students with the concept of philosophy through its involvement in a number of key philosophical topics and gives the source for a fundamental philosophical approach in the process. Major debates and topics focus on epistemology, critical thinking, and metaphysics.

The unit presents other 'great philosophical questions' chosen to includes areas such as philosophical anthropology, religious philosophy, and value theory. The emphasis is on students' involvement with the course topics. The unit assists students in developing an understanding of primary philosophical theories and concepts that allow them to express their beliefs and assumptions and engage with the opinions of other persons.

This unit PHIL100 also seeks to enhance students' skills in critical reflection of logical analysis, experience, and consistent positional and communication skills. Furthermore, this unit is planned as an integration of collaborative learning and project-based learning approach with direct guidance to introduce unfamiliar and new theories and concepts. The collaborative context of the unit focuses only on weekly tutorials. Therefore, the focus is on group discussions and tasks, especially on logical reasoning skills and critical thinking skills. Students will take on the project-based aspect in the research project in the second half of the unit.

The assessment is specifically designed for this unit to allow extensive engagement in a subject that would be a new area of the study for each student. In this regard, the unit claims to be heavily involved in the course. The online exam on critical thinking helps to strengthen students' aptitude for understanding and determining the basic principles of logical reasoning and critical thinking that are important for proficiency in philosophical analysis and other professional and academic goals. The semester exam unit evaluates students' knowledge based on broad philosophical knowledge related to core theories, concepts, and questions.

Subsequently, the research essay task will be provided to allow students to read and research more leading to more formal writing that gives a coherent reason for responding to significant philosophical questions. Furthermore, these are recognized skills that are essential for further work in the humanities, especially in philosophy and other academic activities. Weightage of the PHIL100 Course Code in the Semester:

PHIL100 Introduction to philosophy is a full-time course for postgraduate students. As a result, the participation grade will be based on consistent participation in class discussions and regular attendance at lectures. The a brings 20% weightage on critical thinking or logical reasoning, while the research essay brings 40% and the semester exam brings 20% weightage. For this reason, students must demonstrate relevant knowledge and competence in developing arguments and research.

However, the late task submission is not permissible. Late submission of assignments will result in a daily penalty of 3%. To pass the course, students must obtain a certain grade or minimum mark on the assessment tasks. To qualify or excel in this course, students must achieve a minimum of 50% of the total grades. Students will achieve an A+ or A- grade through technically superior work, demonstrate mastery of the subject matter, and provide basic insights or exceed course expectations for the unit.
