Panic disorder is quick and overwhelming fear or anxiety. This psychological problem involves extreme pounding of the heart to the level that a victim is unable to breathe. Other symptoms of the panic disorder include trembling, sweating and nausea (Smith & Segal, 2017). An individual suffering from this disorder needs a treatment that will facilitate him or her achieve the following goals.

  • Be able to do strenuous activities without the company of another person.
  • Be able to engage in physical exertion activities.
  • Be able to attend social events and other places such as restaurants, public transport, and stores where the escape may be not easy.
  • To consume certain foods and drinks such as caffeine and alcohol.

Some of the techniques that a psychologist can apply to help a panic disorder individual include;

Miracle Questions

Based on the condition of the client this technique will help him realize practical steps that he can adopt to overcome his condition. The intervention in this technique will be asking the client to imagine how he will look in future if his current condition is absent (Antin, 2016).

Scaling Questions

The application of this tool will be aimed to assess the current condition and progress of the client. Besides, it will also involve other peoples' view on the development of the client. The intervention will be aimed at increasing confidence, motivation and hope of the client (Antin, 2016).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This technique strives at exposing the client to the reality that nothing disastrous will happen as the result of panic experience. The intervention in this scenario involves exposing the victim to panic attack experiences. It will help him perceive fears in a more realistic manner (Smith & Segal, 2017).

Exposure Therapy

The application of this technique will involve exposing the client to the controlled and safe environment that will trigger a panic (Smith & Segal, 2017). It equips the client with the healthier ways of coping with panic attracts.
