Interviewer: What skills are required for one to be a qualified doctor?

Doctor: One should have proper communication skills. This is because, in the daily activities of a doctor, he/she communicates with people from all walks of life. A doctor should also be empathetic, respectful and confident.

Interviewer: How does a day in the real life of a doctor look like?

Doctor: Mainly, a doctor’s life revolves around interacting with patients, diagnosing their illnesses, caring for their needs and prescribing medicine. They also attend several meetings in relation to their profession.

Interviewer: What are the current issues within the profession?

Doctor: Recent trends and issues in medicine have changed the profession wholly. For instance, doctors have adopted the use of computers, making their life easier.

Interviewer: What challenges do you face as a doctor?

Doctor: Some of the challenges faced by doctors include; first, doctors have minimum time allocated per patient, making them unable to offer, quality services to patients. This is due to the numbers of people who visit a health facility per day. Secondly, the presence of diseases that are incurable pose as a challenge to doctors because it makes them feel helpless.

Interviewer: What professional advice can you give to one seeking the career of being a doctor?

Doctor: For one to be a doctor, he/she should be keen, committed to his/her profession, have stamina, have technical skills and be responsible enough.

Summary

What is interesting with regards to being a doctor is that the current trends favor doctors greatly. For instance, doctors can now use computers in their line of duty. They use computers to create programs in which they can store data such as patient’s general information, their medical history, and prescriptions given. These give them an easy time making references to past case scenarios.

Several inventions have been made in the field of medicine, giving doctors more opportunity to practice in the field. These are inventions such as Anti-Retroviral drugs for HIV/AIDS patients, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy for cancer patients, MRI scan to obtain brain images and X-rays to check for fractures in patients’ bones (Ali & Gittelman, 2016). Another interesting factor is that, other than studying medicine, one ought to have several other skills such as communication skills, keen to detail, responsibility, commitment and having enough stamina which helps them deal with the pressure that comes along with being a doctor (Morgan, 2013).

In conclusion, being a doctor requires a lot of sacrifice and commitment. It involves helping people regardless of their status, age, race or the language they speak. The moment a person walks into a medical school and decides to study medicine, he/she should be dedicated to their profession. It is more than just acquiring technical skills.
