Ethical situations are not always easy to see until one is in the middle of a potential problem. Please review the Youtube video entitled: Boy Driving the Car, this was a national advertisement campaign that created a lot of public out-cray and was ultimately taken out of production.

What do you see as concerns in this real life advertisement? Do you find this video to be entertaining and or, offensive? Is there a problem with this advertisement, if so what is it?

Answer:

The video tells us about a famous car brand Corvette, which shows that a boy is driving a car is a misleading advertisement due to some unethical issues. The video shows that the car is flying in the sky and most of the people are looking at it. This is not true in a real-life scenario. The basic reality is that cars do not fly but ply on the road at a controlled speed. The second issue is that it violates the law that children should drive cars. In most of the countries it can be seen that there is a minimum age that has to be attained so that the person can get a license for driving a car. The video does not provide us details regarding the age of the child that is seen inside the car, which may mislead the audience. The other thing is that the car has to run on proper track, which is not present within the video. The car is seen running inside a tunnel and seems to defy the laws of gravity by driving upside down ("My favorite Corvette commercial - Banned", 2017).

The video is offensive in nature, as the child shown in the picture closes his eyes and imagination has been portrayed in the video. The advertisement has to be made based on a real-life scenario and not by taking a dream sequence in to consideration. This may lead to harmful imagination that a child may possess leading to various accidents on the road (Fennis & Stroebe, 2015).
