Answer:

Patient- centered care (PCC) is one of the best and widely practiced model healthcare systems. One can describe PCC as the method of treating every patient as a different individual. To use this healthcare model, the nurses has to consider the patient’s point of view before making any decision (Kitson et al., 2013).

There are many dimensions of PCC. To imply the process of Patient-Centered Care, the nurses have to show respect to the values, needs and the preference of the patient. Implying the process involves thinking the patient as a different individual. Whenever the nurse has to make a decision, she must have to involve the patient and his or her family members. If the nurse wants to maximize the care-giving facility to the patients, she has to listen to the patient and consider their needs (Pelzang, 2010). One of the crucial facts, which the nurses have to maintain, is the confidentiality of the patient.

Another dimension of PCC includes the involvement of the patient’s family and friends. The nurses must provide them with all the crucial information about the health situation of the patient (Kitson et al., 2013). The nurses also have to remember that caring the patient also involves caring for the patient’s family, which further narrows down to providing the family with supportive environment. Acknowledging the support of family and friends is also necessary as it provides lots of mental strength and emotional support to the patient (Pelzang, 2010).

To conclude with, PCC requires the health professionals to have good clinical knowledge along with ability to treat the patient and family with compassion and respect.
