What would necessitate the Department of Defense (DoD) to have a structured, regulated, and robust acquisition system?
The Defense Acquisition System is established to administer the investments that are required in the field of technologies, programs, and product support, which is important in order to attain the National Security Strategy as well as support the United States Armed Forces. To have a structured, regulated and robust acquisition system the DoD need to have a strategic plan much like the strategic marketing plan of a business organization, keeping in mind all the factors that are going to be affected by the decision of acquisition. Patriotism and capitalism should have a balance in the thinking process while taking acquisition decisions as over all motive of the acquisition is the betterment of the national defense system. Another important prerequisite is the program manager an individual with the knowledge and experience who will manage the acquisition process (Glas & Essig, 2016).
