It is important to note that process maps can also be used for evaluation after an intervention has been implemented. For instance, looking at a process map following an intervention may help leader-managers to note discrepancies between what was planned and what is actually being practiced, or to see that a process has in fact improved, even if the outcomes have not met the targets.

A process map is a well set visual representation defining and outlining an underlying problem to allow critical analysis, unearth root causes, and possible barriers against efficiency of possible solutions. Process mapping is a common practice in various sectors including health as it mirrors the possible ways of enhancing quality improvement. It involves analysis of current underlying problems and practices through a team of investigators, with identification of issues in a systematic way, provision of knowledge to enable work flow and ultimately coming up with a bigger and broader picture, that is, the starting and ending points of the investigation.

Process map gives insight about current practices as well as identifying underlying issues in a systematic manner. It also allows for standardization and general overview of a bigger picture. These characteristics of process maps inevitably make it a good tool for diagnosis of problems affecting the project area.

In addition, the eventual outcomes that arise from process maps are key pillars that provides basis for strategic solutions by the researcher. In a project conducted by (Phelps & Rhee, 2013), about System Approach to CAUTI elimination, data collection involved varied techniques including observation using trained observers and assessment of patient records to get the required data for the project.

Data collection in a process map could also be affected by various factors such as prioritization of certain groups of individuals under the project who are seen as the most appropriate to enable arriving at a more conclusive and credible verdict, as seen in (Keyhani, 2016), whereby suit floors were considered and the 4th floor at Kaiser San Jose hospital, which had highest rate of CAUTI cases, was used to determine the outcomes.

One common way map processing can enhance strategies for improvement is providing the required solutions which may include involving CAUTI (Catheter-associated urinary tract infection) patients in quality improvement. According to (Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership, 2015), patients are the one directly experiencing the healthcare hence the need to dwell on back to provide some detailed feedback about the quality of services they receive from health centers and how they can probably be improved.

Therefore, process mapping provides a blueprint on how to enhance improved quality in various ways as severally noted above. The subjects (patients) are one of the surest ways of obtaining credible feedback for conclusive verdict. The patient involvement can be embedded in three main factors, that is, experience of the healthcare services, insightful opinion and feedback and their general perspective about the quality of the services they receive.
