Answer:

Regarding the debate of being a house slave or a field slave

The house slaves are generally the slaves who are living close to their master, dresses like the master with the old clothes and easts the food left over by the master. He also lives in the house of the master, generally in the attic or basement. The field slaves on the other hand are the masses. They are the majority and they pray for the death and sickness of their master. The house slaves have to regularly deal with the dilemma of deciding where their loyalties lie and that is why I wish to be a field slave (Baptist, 2016).

As a field slave I would be aware of where my loyalties lie. I would just be beholden to God, to my fellow slaves and with myself. I would be aware of where to direct my anger - most often at the white man or the systematized and legalized economy that keeps us in bondage. It does not matter whether my master is of fair standards or not, he is still overseeing and a participant of what is keeping me in bondage.

Other benefits of being a field slave is having weekly rations of food, along with being provided with proper dresses for wearing during summer and winter. However, they are still under and overseer who made sure they do not slow down or cease the work they are during until the day is over (Du Bois, 2014).
