Question:

Write about the Harriet Tubman’s service in the Civil War.

Answer:

Her services to the Union Army in early 1862 was about when she was in South Carolina for the nursing care for black soldiers and the liberated slaves. Working with David Huntan, Tubman also began spying and scouting the missions (Holman, 2008). The services done by her in the Union Army were publicized where she also had difficulty in getting the pension from the government but eventually was awarded in 1880. She had a particular set of skills for guiding people from slavery on Underground Railroad to arrangements on the clandestine meetings, scout routes without drawing attention to herself. The difficulty has been about building a spy ring where Tubman took steps to bridge the distance with receiving army rations where there has been no support. To end the meet, she was able to assemble the group of trusted scouts for mapping the territory and the waterways. Tubman role in war started to sympathise with the plight of slaves and the growing number of abolitionists who condemned the institution of slavery. The public imagination was also captivated by the publication of Harriet Beecher Stow’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Schultz, 2004). The usefulness is based on how Tubman oversaw the expedition alongside a colonel he trusted with properly organising and leading to a military operation at the time of Civil War. The work done by her has been tremendous where she also focused on the success of expedition mainly through working on the military operations.
