In this particular study, an interview session with Akio Toyoda, the CEO and President of Toyota Motor Corporation, has been described to describe the leadership, motivation, and ethical values of the leader. Precisely, the leadership style of Akio Toyoda can be identified as a blend of transformational and entrepreneurial leadership. In this particular study, the outcome of the interview session has been elaborated providing the interview questions and reply from the leader (Boylan, 2016). Decisively, based on the answers, the leadership style, motivation strategy, and ethical values of Akio Toyoda have been illustrated.

On the basis of the above interview conducted with Akio Toyoda, his leadership style can be described as a combination of transformational as well as entrepreneurial leadership (Orridge, 2009). Transformational leadership is an approach that inspires the entire community and influences the belief of the employees by gathering their wills and provides confidence to work according to the vision of the leader (Kelly, 2016). Akio Toyoda describes that leadership is the ability to set challenging goals and find ways to achieve the set targets. On the other hand, he said that “A leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way” (Dhanabhakyam, & Umadevi, 2012). Akio Toyoda motivates his employees by synchronizing his vision with the employees and pulling them to the idea rather than pushing it (Burns, 2012). He believes in setting goals and developing solutions to achieve the desired targets (Kelly, 2016). Toyoda acts as an inspiration for the employees by showing them the right path to success. According to him, the greatest leadership issue that can be faced by an entrepreneur is the resistance to change (Gayeski, 2008). Akio Toyoda has challenged the old Japanese executive method in which the top level managements are rarely seen in the work field (Orridge, 2009). But, Toyoda personally visit the office sites, dealership shops, plants and loading docks to interact with the employees. The personal interaction with the employees develops a trust and loyalty in their mind that benefits the organization through positive performance of the workforce.

The ethical actions of Toyoda have enhanced responsibility and accountability among the employees to do the right things.

On the basis of the above discussion, Akio Toyoda has described leadership as a way to set goals and influence the employees to move towards a common direction to seek success in the long run. An ethical and transformational leadership approach helps the management to identify the risk and develop adequate strategy to mitigate the issues.
