Introduction

Rhetorical analysis essays are developed on the three concepts of logos Ethos and pathos developed by Aristotle that analyses text to make claims about an article, substantiate them and persuade The Reader towards the same understanding (Benson, 2020). In the course of this paper, the concept of rhetorical analysis will be used to analyse and justify the content in the article, “Canada must aim at stamping out COVID-19 spread: An open letter from doctors and scientists”. The commentary article authored by numerous physician and scientist involved in infection Disease medical care and other health disciplines presents their opinion about adopting a strategy for maximum infection suppression to stop the third wave of covid-19 (Maclean's, 2021). The essay will primarily focus on the idea of implementing aggressive suppression efforts to minimise disease transmission as proposed by the authors in light of its aftereffects on Canada and its community. It will discuss the limitations of current covid-19 strategies in Canada and how its shattering effects on the country's economy can be reduced.

Discussion

To battle, the effects of covid-19 the Canadian government has implemented the undeclared covid-19 strategy which attempts to protect the health system capacity especially of ICU capacity is Highly ineffective in the current situation as the overload settle the overuse and absolute exploitation of health systems whilst doubling the total death count. Again the constant shutdown activation level also economic disruption would indirectly affect the maintenance of the overall health system and resources of the country. To overcome the immediate crisis the article proposes the implementation of aggressive suppression strategies which can be started immediately within an intense Circuit-breaker shutdown to lower the infection spread and the number of cases.

The proposed strategy is considered logical in light of the successful evidence provided by the authors by focusing on the quantitative results derived upon implementation in the countries of Japan South Korea Australia New Zealand and the Atlantic provinces. It has been seen that the number of cases infected and death are both low and the management of Covid with even at the smallest level is well managed and controlled (James, et al., 2020). Suppression and mitigation strategies for control of COVID-19 in New Zealand. medRxiv.).

The statistical data concerning the same also highlights lower positions for the mentioned countries ("COVID Live Update: 172,426,494 Cases and 3,706,563 Deaths from the Coronavirus - Worldometer", 2021). In terms of economic Revival as well it is understood that the maximum suppression strategy upon its effective implementation allows better maintenance of infection control which led to the lowering case number and increasing prospect of relaxing civil restrictions and liberty.  Ainslie et al., in their study, highlighted the initial success of China from social distance in policy despite the increasing intercity movement in the affected provinces. This allowed the administration to restart the economic Revival policy and strengthen the domestic economic exchange (2020).

When discussing The Constant failure in checking the rising Covid cases the author assumes a critical position and criticizes the political limitation which checks the ability to implement the proposed strategy. The difference between the governing system and the population has been rightly pointed out which stands as major contributors in increment in any strategies nonetheless. However, it needs to be understood that the criticism of the government arises not merely out of the limitation of this immediate mention strategy but for the lack and neglect of implementing any accurate strategies that would have helped in reducing the health crisis.

In conjunction with this, criticism also arises from the failure to accept its shortcomings and learn from mistakes which led to the constant neglect of implementing the maximum infection suppression strategy. The author points out the lowering number of cases in the states of Ontario Quebec, Alberta and so on in the article upon analysing the raw data acquired from the Public Health Agency of Canada website. The authors criticise heavily the cavalier attitude displayed by the government in some instances with regards to the strategic management of the situation under the claim of “We followed the best advice”. This undercuts their contribution in accentuating the number of cases and the overall problem gripping the country.

Conclusion

In light of the rhetorical analysis conducted on the article, “Canada must aim at stamping out COVID-19 spread: An open letter from doctors and scientists” it is understood that the government of Canada has been quite negligent in understanding their mistake and implementing an accurate strategy which would have stopped the spread of the disease. Although their efforts at managing the situation cannot be denied nevertheless, the broad democratic structure with too many participants limit them from implementing the aggressive suppression strategy that would have helped them to increase the situation accordingly. From this, it can be claimed that the Canadian government still has a long way to go when it comes to managing and limiting the number of rising Covid cases in the country.
